FETAC
The further education and training sector in Ireland offers
more opportunities than ever for learners, opening doors to
new or better jobs or further or higher education and training.
FETAC, the Further Education and Training Awards Council as
the single national body responsible for awards and standards
in the area makes over 70,000 awards a year to learners throughout
Ireland.
A huge variety of learning and training programmes now lead
to FETAC awards, ranging from initial skills training to adult
literacy programmes, from Post Leaving Certificate/Further
Education (PLC/FE) courses to learning in the workplace. These
programmes are provided by Bord Iascaigh Mhara, Fáilte
Ireland , FÁS, Teagasc and the Further Education Centres,
including the VECs and, from 2005, private training providers.
FETAC works closely with these providers both in the making
of awards and in the development of quality standards.
FETAC also works alongside the National Qualifications Authority
of Ireland (NQAI) and its partners in education and training
in the development of the new National Framework of Qualifications.
This Framework comprises 10 levels and thereby encompasses
all levels of education and training awards in the State.
FETAC has specific responsibility for levels 1-6 of the National Framework of Qualifications.
For information on progression and admission to a variety of higher education courses through the CAO process see Progression from FETAC Level 5 Certificates and Level 6 Advanced Certificates to Higher Education Courses which includes the higher education links scheme.
CITAS College currently runs FETAC Level 5 courses. You can access a list of these course by clicking Course Offerings. No prior knowledge of I.T. or Business Studies is necessary, although we may recommend particular courses to suit you. Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality
Travel, tourism and hospitality are some of the world's largest industries. It has been estimated by the World Tourism Organisation that around one job in ten now depends on this fast growing sector. These travellers expect high standards of service and facilities and it is only through organised and structured training that the industry can meet these expectations.
The Confederation of Tourism & Hospitality was established in 1982 to provide recognised standards of management training appropriate to the needs of the hotel and travel industries, via its syllabi, examinations and awards. These have been continuously developed and improved to ensure they are relevant and up to date. This has been carried out under the careful scrutiny and supervision of experts in all aspects of the hotel, tourism and travel industries.
Over 7000 students study CTH qualifications per year. CTH programmes are well respected across the hospitality, tourism and travel industries. This is clear fromthe programme endorsements it has received from the Institute of Hospitality, Virgin Atlantic, Star Alliance and GTMC. Students can be confident that gaining a CTH qualification is an excellent start to a promising career with truly global opportunities.
Those studying for the examinations of the Confederation are offered a structured learning process, encompassing both the theoretical and practical aspects of the industry, integrating the various subjects, together with a clearly defined pattern of career development through progressive grades of membership.
